Entebbe UPPC boosted their hopes of finishing strongly in the Uganda Premier League after securing a deserved 2-0 victory over UPDF FC on Thursday evening at Bugonga.
In a contest played under challenging wet conditions after rainfall in Entebbe, goals from Issa Bugembe and substitute Muhammad Kyeyune earned the hosts maximum points and completed a league double over the army side.

The game had initially faced an unexpected delay after match officials arrived late at the venue, forcing kick-off to start 22 minutes behind the scheduled 4pm time. However, the interruption did little to affect Entebbe UPPC’s momentum as they began the match brightly in front of their home supporters.
Only three minutes into the encounter, Bugembe handed the hosts an early advantage with a clinical finish that immediately put UPDF FC under pressure. The forward reacted quickest inside the area to beat the goalkeeper and ignite celebrations at Bugonga.
The early breakthrough allowed Entebbe UPPC to dictate large spells of the first half despite the slippery playing surface. Their midfield controlled possession well, while UPDF FC struggled to create clear-cut opportunities in the opening period.

UPDF FC gradually improved as the game progressed and returned from halftime with greater attacking intent. The visitors pressed higher up the pitch and attempted to stretch the hosts’ defence in search of an equaliser.
Despite UPDF FC’s improvement, Entebbe UPPC remained organised at the back and continued to threaten on the counterattack. The home side nearly doubled their lead midway through the second half, but UPDF FC survived after a series of dangerous attacks around their penalty area.
Looking to inject fresh energy into the attack, Entebbe UPPC introduced Kyeyune in the 79th minute for Julius Poloto. The substitution proved decisive.

Ten minutes after coming on, Kyeyune sealed the victory with a composed finish to make it 2-0 and effectively end UPDF FC’s hopes of a comeback. His goal capped off an impressive late display from the hosts, who managed the closing stages professionally to secure all three points.
The result means Entebbe UPPC completed a season double against UPDF FC after winning the reverse fixture 1-0 earlier in the campaign.
The victory lifts Entebbe UPPC into sixth position on the Uganda Premier League table with 46 points, leaving them just five points adrift of the top four as the season approaches its final stretch.

For UPDF FC, the defeat leaves them in a more delicate position near the bottom half of the table. Although they remain five points above the relegation zone, that advantage could be reduced to just three points if Buhimba United Saints FC overcome Express FC on Friday.
Attention now shifts to the next round of fixtures, where Entebbe UPPC will travel to face Maroons FC on May 12, while UPDF FC will return home to host KCCA FC the following day.
