UPL Suspends Man of the Match Awards After Partnership Expiry- Issues Strict Warning to Clubs

The StarTimes Uganda Premier League (UPL) has suspended all Man of the Match activities following the expiry of the commercial partnership linked to the matchday award. In a notice to member clubs, the UPL Secretariat said the suspension takes immediate effect from Matchday 2, Match 15, beginning with the fixture between URA FC and SC Villa, and will remain in place until further notice. “Following the expiry of the partnership attached to the Man of the Match property in the Uganda Premier League, this activity has been put on hold,” the statement reads in part. The league further directed clubs not to conduct any Man of the Match activities at matches starting from Match 15 of Matchday 2. As part of the temporary suspension, all procedures traditionally associated with the award have also been halted. These include placard presentations, post-match handshakes and official photo sessions involving the award recipient. The Secretariat has instructed all participating clubs to strictly adhere to the directive across league venues. The suspension is expected to remain in force as the league organisers explore options for securing a new commercial partner for the Man of the Match property. Until a new arrangement is reached, no Man of the Match award will be officially conducted at UPL fixtures.
