Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Denis Onyango has added another major achievement to his glittering career after being part of Mamelodi Sundowns' 2026 CAF Champions League title winning squad.
The South African giants were crowned Champions of Africa following a hard-fought 1-1 draw against AS FAR Rabat in Rabat, a result that sealed a 2-1 aggregate victory in the final on Sunday.

Sundowns entered the decisive second leg with a slim advantage after securing a 1-0 victory at home in the first leg, and they held their nerve away from home to clinch their second-ever African crown.
The triumph marks another historic moment for the Pretoria-based side, who last lifted the prestigious continental trophy in 2016. Their latest success also earns the club a second star on their badge, symbolizing two CAF Champions League titles.

Veteran goalkeeper Onyango, one of Uganda’s most decorated footballers, once again played a key leadership role as Sundowns completed their memorable continental campaign. The experienced shot-stopper continues to strengthen his legacy as one of Africa’s greatest goalkeepers after adding another Champions League medal to his collection.
Winning the title also guarantees Sundowns qualification for several major international competitions. The newly crowned African champions will now feature in the 2026 CAF Super Cup against USM Alger, the 2026 FIFA Intercontinental Cup, and the expanded 2029 FIFA Club World Cup.

In addition to continental glory, Sundowns will also pocket a massive $6 million prize reward for winning Africa’s premier club competition.
The achievement is another huge milestone for South African football as Sundowns continue to establish themselves among the continent’s elite clubs.
