FUFA Punishes Buhimba United Saints After Failure to Honour NEC FC Match

As punishment, Buhimba United Saints forfeited the match, automatically handing NEC FC maximum points. The disciplinary panel also ordered an immediate deduction of three points from the club’s accumulated league tally and imposed a fine of three million Uganda shillings.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations has taken disciplinary action against Buhimba United Saints FC after the club failed to honour their Uganda Premier League fixture against NEC FC earlier this month.
In a ruling issued by the FUFA Disciplinary Panel, the Hoima-based side was found guilty of failing to turn up for the scheduled league match played on May 13 at MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo.
As punishment, Buhimba United Saints forfeited the match, automatically handing NEC FC maximum points. The disciplinary panel also ordered an immediate deduction of three points from the club’s accumulated league tally and imposed a fine of three million Uganda shillings.

The sanctions add to an already difficult campaign for Buhimba United Saints, who had earlier been relegated from the Uganda Premier League following a poor run of results throughout the season. Following the deduction, the club remains rooted at the bottom of the table with 12 points.
On the day of the fixture, NEC FC players arrived at Lugogo as scheduled and completed the mandatory pre-match procedures under the supervision of match officials led by referee Solomon Jjumba.
However, Buhimba United Saints players were absent from the stadium, forcing officials to wait before eventually declaring the match a forfeiture in favour of NEC FC in accordance with league regulations.

The incident highlighted the worsening financial and administrative troubles surrounding the club in the closing stages of the season.
Reports emerging from the club indicated that players refused to travel to Kampala for the fixture due to unpaid salaries and allowances.
Sources close to the team revealed that players demanded payment of outstanding wages before agreeing to honour the league encounter, but the issue was not resolved in time for the trip to Kampala.
The situation escalated further earlier in the week when the club’s head coach resigned from his position. In his resignation, the coach reportedly cited months of unpaid salary since joining the club, exposing the depth of the financial struggles affecting the team.

The failure to fulfil the NEC FC fixture became one of the clearest signs of the instability that has plagued Buhimba United Saints during the campaign.
Despite missing the NEC FC match, Buhimba United Saints later managed to travel for another away fixture against Mbarara City FC in Kamwenge, although the team reportedly arrived late for the encounter.
The club eventually concluded their difficult season with a 3-0 defeat against URA FC in their final match of the campaign.

Buhimba United Saints’ relegation and disciplinary sanctions cap off a turbulent season marked by poor performances, financial hardship, and administrative challenges.
The club struggled for consistency throughout the campaign and spent much of the season battling near the bottom of the standings before relegation was confirmed.
The latest punishment from FUFA now raises further questions about the club’s future and preparations ahead of life outside the top flight next season.
